Clean water is the most basic commodity on the planet. Despite this, 10% of the world’s population live without it. We’re doing something about this.
Dirty water causes more deaths each year than all forms of violence. In Madagascar, 20% of children die directly as a result of diarrhoeal disease. For those that get sick, medication is unaffordable.
People without clean water waste time walking to the nearest water source or boiling dirty water, taking children out of the classroom and adults out of the workplace. This job often falls to the women and children of a community, worsening inequality.
The overall effect on peoples’ health and livelihoods is driving people further into poverty. Increasing levels of poverty make people more likely to resort to drastic measures to make a living, resulting in deforestation.
